APC Disowns Fake Primary Election Schedule In Enugu

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Enugu State chapter, has disowned a purported notice making the rounds on the conduct of primary elections for forthcoming local government polls.

The party described it as unauthorized and misleading.

In a public disclaimer issued by the party’s leadership, the APC said the document, titled: “Notification of Conduct of Primaries for Local Government Elections in 17 LGAs and 260 Councillorship Wards, Pursuant to the Electoral Act 2026,” did not emanate from its recognised state structure.

The party maintained that the notice was not approved by its duly constituted leadership under the state chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, and therefore holds no legal weight.

The statement signed by the state publicity secretary, Uche Obute, insisted that individuals who signed the document lacked the authority of both the party’s National Working Committee and the Enugu State Executive Committee to issue such a directive or conduct primaries on behalf of the APC.

“The All-Progressives Congress (APC) recognises only one State Executive Committee, duly constituted and affirmed by the National Working Committee (NWC), as empowered to organise and conduct primaries in accordance with the Party Constitution and the Electoral Act 2026.

“Consequently, any primary election purportedly conducted in pursuance to the said notice is null, void, and of no consequence, and shall not be recognised by the party or any lawful authority,” the statement warned.

It further advised party members, aspirants, and stakeholders to disregard the document and avoid participating in any activities linked to it.

The statement also disclosed that the party had notified the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission and security agencies, to prevent unlawful activities stemming from the development.

The APC assured members that an official timetable and guidelines for its primaries would be communicated through authorized channels at the appropriate time.

He reiterated the party’s commitment to internal democracy, rule of law, and credible electoral processes.
