Joseph Arumala of Ikorodu City has surged to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) scoring charts following a commanding performance on Sunday. The young forward found the back of the net in his team’s resounding 3–0 victory over Kano Pillars at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos.
The goal, which came in the second half to cap off a dominant team display, marked Arumala’s 12th league goal of the season. That strike pushed the former Golden Eaglets striker one clear of his closest rivals.
Heading into the weekend, Arumala had been locked in a tight race with Rangers’ Godwin Obaje and Abia Warriors’ Chukwuemeka Obioma, both of whom have 11 goals apiece.
With four matchdays remaining in the current NPFL campaign, the race for the Golden Boot remains intense.
A cluster of four prolific scorers are lurking just behind the leaders on 10 goals each: Victor Mbaoma (Remo Stars), Chidera Michael (Enyimba), Uche Collins (Katsina United), and Daddy Abdulrahman (El-Kanemi Warriors).
Arumala’s latest strike not only boosts his individual ambitions but also solidified Ikorodu City’s strong home form, as they cruised past the visiting Kano Pillars without reply.
The win adds further momentum to the Lagos-based side as the season enters its final, decisive phase.
