The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has raised concern about what it called clandestine efforts of political actors to undermine the nation’s democracy.

The president-general of the AYCF, Yerima Shettima, said it is disheartening to witness a group of individuals attempting to sow seeds of discord among leaders for their own selfish political gains.

Shettima decried the continuous attempts of certain northern politicians to drive a wedge in the relationship between President Bola Tinubu and Defence Minister of State, Bello Matawalle, noting that corrupt politicians are uncomfortable with the support and promotion Matawalle provides to Tinubu’s interests in the North.

In his statement, Shettima condemned the actions of this group, stating that “Matawalle is targeted for his resilience against the recent rumours of instigation of the Military to undermine democracy.”

He said Arewa group stands firm in its commitment to preserving the democratic values of the nation and ensuring that such manipulative tactics do not hinder the democratic process.

Shettima urged all Nigerians to remain vigilant against any attempt by corrupt politicians to subvert democracy and called on law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute those who seek to undermine Nigeria’s democratic system.

He further said, the forum “remains committed to supporting leaders who prioritise Nigeria’s development over personal gain and will continue to advocate for policies that benefit all Nigerians.”
