A curfew was imposed on Otukpo local government area of Benue state to stop planned protests by the youth following the killing of thirteen residents of Efeyi community in Ugboju District by suspected armed herdsmen on Tuesday.

Responding to LEADERSHIP inquiry, the chairman Otukpo local government area of Benue state, Maxwell Ogiri , said he imposed the curfew because ‘some decadent youths’ were planning to create crisis in the guise of a protest.

Ogiri said there was relative peace and apprehension in many communities due to the renewed spat of violent attacks in different parts of the Otukpo Local Government now and then.

According to the chairman, “A curfew was imposed last night by me because of the intel that some decadent youths were planning to create crisis in the Local Government in the guise of a protest.”

Commenting on the attack, Ogiri narrated, “It was an early morning attack on the village of Efeyi in Ugboju district of Otukpo LGC. Around 5am on July 28, the attackers in large numbers came and began to shoot at residents of the village, killing about 13 persons and injuring many more”
