Benue CSOs Back Alia For 2nd Term, Cite Infrastructure Projects

A coalition of civil society organisations (CSOs) in Benue State has endorsed Governor Hyacinth Alia for a second term, citing ongoing road construction, rehabilitation and drainage projects across the state.

The coalition, in a statement signed by its Secretary, Momoh Afitz, and Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Magaji Ibrahim, said the projects being executed across the 23 local government areas would improve transportation, stimulate economic activities and enhance access to rural communities.

It also commended the state government for what it described as renewed attention to critical infrastructure, particularly roads and drainage systems, which it said were essential to agriculture, commerce and the movement of people and goods.

The group specifically praised the Director of Civil Engineering, Engr. Tivfa Wombo, for his role in supervising road projects and opening up drainage channels in Makurdi and its environs.

According to the coalition, Wombo’s supervision had helped ensure that construction works were executed in line with required specifications and standards, while improved drainage infrastructure would help address flooding and other environmental challenges.

The CSOs said the Ministry of Works had demonstrated commitment to its mandate by accelerating infrastructure development with the support of Governor Alia.

They noted that several road projects recently approved by the governor across the 23 local government areas were already at advanced stages of completion.

The coalition urged Benue residents to support continuity in the state’s development agenda ahead of the 2027 governorship election, arguing that a second term would provide the administration with an opportunity to consolidate and complete ongoing projects.

“Benue needs continuity in its development efforts. The infrastructure projects currently ongoing across the state demonstrate that government can make a visible impact when there is commitment and proper supervision,” the coalition said.

It expressed optimism that sustained investment in roads, drainage and other critical infrastructure would improve living conditions and strengthen economic activities across the state.
