President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, Most Rev Lucius Ugorji, has described the new Justice, Development and Peace Commission (JDPC) edifice for the diocese as a big feat and testament to the power of commitment.
Archbishop Ugorji who doubles as the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri, made the disclosure during the formal commissioning of the edifice at the weekend in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
According to him, the resilience of Rev Fr Gerald Njoku, the director of JDPC/EU-care Charity Services of the Archdiocese, has restored the once abandoned structure to admiration and intervention.
He disclosed that the JDPC was pivotal to charity works, saying the centre’s activities were in response to the needs of people which government could not meet.
The Archbishop said, “The work that the JDPC does is what government ought to do but the church is helping to fill the gaps and I’m proud of how this place has turned out.
“This edifice is a proof of the commitment of Fr Gerald Njoku to fix things, indeed he has achieved a great feat with the restoration of this complex to its glory, after it was abandoned for many years.
“We are grateful to Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State for his support to the church even as we will continue to lobby for more. What the church is doing, is basically to help make life easier for the people.
The JDPC Owerri director, Fr Njoku thanked the Archbishop for the support and trust, even as he pledged renewed zeal.
Njoku expressed gratitude to everyone who attended the commissioning and declared the readiness to work with anyone or organisation to help improve lives.
The event attracted several priests from the different departments and parishes across the state including friends of Fr Gerald, who supported him on many interventions.
