The Governing Council of Mufutau Lanihun College of Education (MULCOED), Ibadan, Oyo State, has announced the suspension of four top officials, including the Provost of the institution.
The suspension followed the officials’ alleged involvement in a fraudulent scheme to issue the College’s Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) certificates to individuals who never attended the institution.
In a disclaimer notice addressed to the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and copied to the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the Council described the incident as a “disturbing” breach of trust, revealing that the implicated staff members acted on their own “inordinate craving for filthy lucre” without the knowledge or approval of the college leadership.
Those suspended with immediate effect include the Provost, Mr. Lawal Musiliu Ayodele; the Registrar, Mr. Adebolu Sirajudeen; the Bursar, Mr. Akanji Abdulrasak and the Admission Officer, Mr. Jimoh Malik.
A statement signed by the Governing Council Chairman, Professor Taslim Hammed, said the decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the Council held on Saturday, June 28, 2025.
Hammed said the Council unanimously resolved to allow the rule of law to take its full course and initiated measures including immediate suspension of the indicted staff members and referral of their cases to the College’s Disciplinary Committee.
Others include establishment of a Visitation Panel by the Proprietor and the Board to conduct a comprehensive audit of the College’s activities and full cooperation with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the Nigeria Police Force (Oyo State Command), and other security agencies involved in the investigation and prosecution of the suspects.
The Council, while condemning the “very shameful act” that had brought the College’s name into disrepute, categorically dissociated the institution from the actions of the accused staff.
“Mufutau Lanihun College of Education, Ibadan (MULCOED), is ethically well-grounded, such that the tradition of academic excellence it has cultivated over the years remains well-guarded and untarnished,” Hammed stated.
Reassuring the public, especially parents and guardians of students and prospective candidates, the College affirmed its commitment to upholding the ideals of academic excellence and sound moral character.
The Governing Council urged all stakeholders to remain confident in the College’s integrity as it works to restore public trust and ensure accountability among its staff.
