A firm, Future Assured Royal Empire, has handed over a campus radio station, with state-of-the-art facilities, to the management of Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, as part of a major leap in practical journalism training.

LEADERSHIP Weekend learnt that the Campus Radio Station is expected to enhance media training and contribute to campus-wide information dissemination within the institution.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, a representative of the contracting firm, Mr Adamu Manu, said the project was executed with the support of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) under its Zonal Intervention Project.

He disclosed that the project covered the procurement and installation of key broadcast facilities, including a radio transmitter and state-of-the-art digital studio equipment.

He said the project was implemented in three phases: the construction of a solar mast, the supply and installation of solar power equipment, and the procurement and installation of radio broadcasting equipment.

“The solar aspect of the project was provided to ensure uninterrupted broadcasting,” Manu explained, adding that the initiative was designed to give journalism students hands-on experience that complements classroom instruction.

He said the Campus Radio Station would serve as a practical training ground where students can acquire both theoretical and professional broadcasting skills.

On his part, the rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, Malam Sani Usman, commended TETFund for its continued support to tertiary institutions, noting that the intervention has opened new opportunities for Mass Communication students to gain first-hand practical broadcast experience.

The rector also praised the contractor for delivering quality work and ensuring value for money.

He urged staff and students of the Mass Communication Department to maintain the station properly so that it can sustainably serve its intended purpose.

Also speaking, the Head of Mass Communication Department, Mr Shamsu Abdu Dauda, lauded the management of the Polytechnic for ensuring the realisation of the project, which he said the department had yearned for over several years.

Mr Dauda noted that the Campus Radio would give the department a competitive edge, attract more students, and strengthen the integration of practical journalism training into teaching.

He assured the Polytechnic management that the station would be efficiently and professionally managed.
