A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wuse, Abuja, ordered a businessman, Ikenna Ezeudu, to pay N89,000 to Mr John Ani for the alcoholic beverages he bought from him.
The Magistrates’ Ekpenyong Inyang also ordered Ezeudu to provide a surety to sign an undertaking to pay back the money by July.
She added that if Ezeudu failed to abide by the order, he would be arrested and detained in a correctional centre for two weeks.
The police charged Ezeudu with criminal breach of trust and cheating, to which he pleaded guilty.
The prosecution counsel, Samuel Emmanuel, told the court that Ani reported the matter at Trademore Police Station, Lugbe, on June 18.
Emmanuel said that the complainant entrusted alcoholic drinks worth N159,000 to Ezeudu to sell and pay him back sometime in July 2024.
He further said Ezeudu paid N70,000 only, refused to pay the balance, and converted it to his personal use.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
