Delta State government has said it’s determined to ensure the present administration does the needful to ensure sanity in the health sector.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori gave the assurance when members of the Nigeria Optometric Association (NOA) visited him in Asaba.
Represented by secretary to the state government Dr. Kingsley Emu, he told them to ensure that they create awareness on how blindness could be prevented as available data indicated that 80 per cent of blindness was avoidable.
“Optometrists as eye care providers have a key role to play in preventing avoidable blindness through early detection and management of conditions that could pose a threat to the health of the eye.”
In his remarks, the national president of the association, Dr. Obinna Awaika, said NOA has put machineries on ground to disallow quacks operate in the health sector.
He commended the governor for the development of the state and for supporting them and providing enabling environment for their members in the state.
In his welcome address, the state chairman of the association, Dr. Chucks Odiase, called on members to expose themselves to the knowledge that woud be gained from training and retraining of members.
