The Delta State Police Command has successfully rescued a kidnap victim and retrieved the victim’s vehicle.
The incident occurred when a 23-year-old male (name withheld) parked his Black-colored GLK 350 Benz SUV along Jakpa road, leaving his brother (name withheld) inside the vehicle while attending to other tasks.
He was alerted that the vehicle had been attacked by three armed men who forcibly took the vehicle with his brother inside, driving away to an unknown location.
Upon receiving this information, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Wale Abass, instructed the DPO of Ekpan, CSP Aliyu Shaba, to mobilize operatives to ensure the victim’s rescue and the arrest of the suspects involved.
In compliance with the CP’s directive, the DPO led a surveillance team attached to the Ekpan division for the operation. Based on technically generated intelligence, the team proceeded to a bush at Ekakpamre, Ughelli-South LGA. Upon being noticed by the kidnappers, a serious gun battle ensued. During this confrontation, two of the kidnappers sustained fatal injuries, while one managed to escape with gunshot wounds.
The kidnapped victim was successfully rescued unharmed. Additionally, two single-barrel and one double-barrel gun, along with two expended cartridges, were recovered, alongside the vehicle.
The two injured suspects were taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
DSP Edafe Bright, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Delta Command, confirmed the incident and stated that three firearms, including two single-barrel and one double-barrel gun, with two expended cartridges, were recovered.
He assured that efforts were underway to apprehend the injured suspect who escaped, stressing the commitment of the command to take decisive action against criminals aiming to disrupt the peace in Delta State.
“The command will not hesitate to take all appropriate steps against criminals, and anyone planning to disrupt the existing peace within Delta state will be dealt with decisively,” Bright stated
