The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised the alarm that the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration in connivance with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had concluded plan to use the forthcoming Continuous Voters Registration exercise to rig the September 21 governorship election.
State publicity secretary of the party, Peter Igbingie, at a press briefing in Benin yesterday, said ICT officials of the electoral umpire were penciled down to do the job for the Edo State government.
According to him, working under the guise of no adequate personnel for the exercise, arrangements have been allegedly concluded with INEC to “deploy the services of Edo teachers and civil servants in addition to members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, as Ad Hoc staff.”
Reacting, Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, likened the allegations to a man who is not prepared for an examination, adding that as a serious political party it beholds on them to encourage the people to come and be registered.
