As the Edo State governorship election holds this Saturday, battle-ready security operatives comprising men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and Nigerian Army (NA), took strategic positions on major and internal roads in Benin City, the State capital.

Major city roads like the Ring Road and Akpakpava Road, and internal streets were barricaded with security operatives scrutinising would-be voters and motorists.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on election duties, including journalists and election observers, were allowed free passage while unauthorised passers-by were being profiled before passage.

A polling unit visited by our correspondent witnessed a large turnout of voters awaiting the commencement of the voting exercise under the strict watch of security operatives who were on ground to guarantee a peaceful exercise.
