Abia State governor Alex Otti, has confirmed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating allegations of misappropriated funds intended for the Abia Airport project.
Otti revealed during a media chat that the previous administration, led by former Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu, had allocated N10 billion for the airport, but a forensic audit showed that the funds were transferred to 32 different accounts.
“We are still on it, and I’m sure that at the appropriate time they will bring back the money,” Otti said, adding that his administration had petitioned the EFCC to recover the allegedly looted funds.
The governor also announced subsidised fares for the state’s newly launched Electric Bus Services. Commuters traveling from Umuahia to Aba will pay N800, while trips to Ohafia will cost N1,000.
“Cash will not be accepted. Payment must be made via ATM card as part of our digital transformation. That is where the world is going,” he said.
