The National President of the Nigeria Association of Auctioneers, Alhaji Aliyu Kiliya, has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its innovative approach to digitalising the auction sector.

Speaking recently with journalists in Abuja, Kiliya expressed his initial scepticism about digital auctions but acknowledged that they align with global best practices.

“I was among those who initially thought digital auctioning was wrong, but truly, it is the best and most effective practice globally,” he admitted.

The auction association leader urged Nigerians to support the EFCC’s efforts to modernise the sector, emphasising that digital auctions create more job opportunities, particularly for the youth.

According to Kiliya, the recent e-auction conducted by the EFCC demonstrated the potential to improve transparency and efficiency in the sector.

He also called on the Bureau of Public Procurement and other federal agencies to adopt similar digital practices when disposing of government properties to maximise revenue and maintain asset value.

„The auction sector has a lot to offer to the Nigerian economy. I appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to recognise its potential and invest in it,“ Kiliya said.

He further criticised the Nigerian Customs Service for not adequately involving the association in its auction activities, stating that collaboration would ensure better practices.

Kiliya concluded by endorsing the EFCC’s e-auction initiative and urging other agencies to follow its example to enhance transparency and boost public confidence in the auction sector.
