eHealth Africa has signed a cooperation protocol with Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population to advance digital health, artificial intelligence (AI) and public health innovation across Africa.
The agreement, signed on October 10, 2026, in Berlin, Germany, provides a framework for collaboration in health information systems, AI-based diagnostics, disease surveillance, public health analytics, teleradiology and stroke care.
It also provides for capacity building, knowledge exchange and joint participation in regional health initiatives aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery across the continent.
The protocol was signed by the Group Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of eHealth Africa, Adam Thompson, and the Advisor to Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population for Radiology Affairs, Prof. Mohamed Fawzi.
The signing was witnessed by Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar.
Speaking on the agreement, Thompson said the partnership reflected the importance of leveraging African expertise and innovation to address the continent’s healthcare challenges.
“This collaboration reflects our belief that Africa has the expertise, infrastructure and experience needed to develop solutions that respond to its unique healthcare challenges,” he said.
He added that bringing together African institutions, technology and implementation experience could strengthen health systems, expand access to quality healthcare and develop sustainable solutions for communities.
The executive director of eHealth Africa, Atef Fawaz, who was part of the delegation, said strategic partnerships were essential to strengthening regional collaboration and building sustainable health systems.
“This collaboration goes a long way towards connecting African expertise with regional and international opportunities to advance sustainable health systems,” Fawaz said.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population, Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, said the agreement aligned with the ministry’s efforts to deploy modern technologies and digital solutions to improve healthcare delivery.
He said the cooperation would also strengthen international partnerships and facilitate knowledge exchange between Egypt and other African countries.
According to him, the collaboration would support the expansion of teleradiology services across Africa, promote joint stroke care programmes and enable participation in regional health initiatives led by Egypt.
He added that both institutions would explore joint programmes and projects that could be implemented through international financing mechanisms and donor organisations.
Under the agreement, eHealth Africa and Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population plan to establish a Joint Working Group to coordinate activities and identify initiatives aligned with their shared priorities.
Specific projects will be developed through mutually agreed implementation arrangements, with the broader objective of promoting digital health innovation, improving healthcare delivery and strengthening regional health cooperation across Africa.
