Emir Of Kano Pledges Support For Research Centre

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero, has pledged to continue to support the Kano Independent Research Center Trust (KIRCT) to achieve its mandate.

This was made public in a press release issued in Lagos by Pfizer Inc. after its routine annual meeting with the Kano State Government, highlighting the work of the KIRCT and reviewing progress made so far.

While addressing the donors and trustees of the Center, who paid him a courtesy call in his palace, the emir said he was conversant with the centre’s establishment and was keen to sustain the role played by those before him.

He stated, “I thank Allah that the centre is being further developed for the benefit of the people.

“We will give full and continued support so the trust will progress. Be assured of my support and the cooperation of the Emirate,” he said.

The Kano government and Pfizer established KIRCT in Dawakin Kudu, Kano.

The centre conducts bio-medical (and healthcare) research focusing on communicable and non-communicable diseases of public health importance in Nigeria and Africa.

It also executes programmes for workforce development in public health.

 

The KIRCT donors and trustees met in Kano, during which they briefed the Secretary to the state government, Dr Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, who represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

 

The delegation included Pfizer counsel Chief Anthony Idigbe (SAN), Pfizer country manager, Nigeria/Cluster Lead, West Africa, Mr Olayinka Subair, Cluster Lead, Sub-Sahara Africa, and Mr Rhulani Nhlaniki.

 

The statement adds: “At Pfizer, we apply science and our global resources to bring therapies to people that extend and significantly improve their lives.

 

“We strive to set the standard for quality, safety, and value in the discovery, development, and manufacture of healthcare products, including innovative medicines and vaccines.
