Enrique Sets 2030 Retirement Goal As PSG Deal Nears

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has offered a rare and candid look into his long-term plans, revealing exactly when he intends to step away from coaching.

The Spanish tactician, who has already secured multiple trophies with the French champions, is widely expected to sign a substantial contract extension that would keep him at the Parc des Princes for years to come.

However, despite his ongoing success at the elite level of European football, the 56-year-old has made it clear that he has no desire to continue managing deep into his later years.

The former Barcelona and Spain boss has drawn a clear line in the sand for his retirement, explaining that he wants to avoid becoming a “grandfather” figure patrolling the technical area.

In a chat with La Nueva España, Enrique shared his thinking in characteristically blunt fashion:

“I don’t want to be a grandfather who coaches. I don’t want that. I think that beyond 60… In fact, I tease my brother Felipe by telling him: ‘I’m going to have to retire before you.’ He is a year younger than me — he’s 55 — and he will retire at 61… so do the math.”

Doing the math places Enrique’s likely retirement around the year 2030, when he would be 61 years old. Interestingly, that timeline aligns neatly with the expected length of his forthcoming new contract at PSG, suggesting that the Spaniard is already planning for his current role to be one of his final chapters in football management.
