IPAC urged the local government area chairmen to work by democratic tenets and ensure that they initiate programmes and projects that will add value and turnaround the fortune of the state.

IPAC chairman in Cross River State, Engr. Effiom Okon, gave the advice shortly after the inauguration of the 18 local government council chairmen, which took place at the Government House in Calabar, on Monday.

The IPAC chairman, who spoke in company of the organisation’s Secretary, Mr. Fredrick Eje, congratulated the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for sweeping councillorship positions across 196 wards in Cross River State, saying that there was no victor nor vanquished in the elections as the victory achieved was for all.

The IPAC chairman also lauded residents of the state for their peaceful conduct during the local government polls and thanked the electoral umpire, the State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIElC) for not shifting the election beyond the generally agreed date.

“I commended the state governor, Bassey Otu, for heeding to the call for local government autonomy,” he said, stressing that autonomy will attract grassroots development.
