QNET’s YouTube video showcasing its financial literacy program “FinGreen” has won a gold award at the 2023 MarCom Awards, a prestigious international creative competition.

The video, titled “FinGreen: Seeding Financial Literacy for a Brighter Future,” was one of 6,500 entries from over 47 countries submitted this year. It highlights QNET’s initiative to improve financial understanding in underprivileged communities through peer-to-peer education.

The video begins with the statistic that only one in three adults globally possess financial literacy. It then demonstrates how FinGreen aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals by tackling inequality and promoting decent work and economic growth opportunities.

Launched in Turkey and Nigeria in 2022, and expanded to Ghana in 2023, FinGreen primarily targets women and youth in developing regions.

In a press statement, QNET CEO Malou Caluza emphasized that FinGreen is tailored for women and youth in emerging economies, considering the historical limitations women face in accessing financial services and the lack of essential financial knowledge among many individuals.

Caluza believes the MarCom award affirms the video’s effective communication of FinGreen’s mission to empower individuals and uplift communities.

Research by the International Federation of Accountants indicates that individuals lacking financial literacy are more vulnerable to fraud, less likely to save, have higher debt, and face a greater risk of bankruptcy.

The FinGreen program collaborates with local experts to identify underserved communities in need of financial education and inclusion. In Nigeria alone, 20 youth leaders were trained in the first phase, becoming “ambassadors” to deliver financial education workshops to over 600 young Nigerians in the second phase.

A 17-year-old Nigerian student, Mogbeyiro Gbemisola, shared how FinGreen instilled the importance of money management and her commitment to educate others in her community for a brighter future.

Similarly, Olaniyi Shalom Anuoluwapo, a 20-year-old Nigerian founder of Teen Girls Entourage, stated that FinGreen transformed her approach to managing money, promoting a savings culture in her family and reshaping their financial habits.

Inspired by the program’s success in Nigeria, Ghana, and Turkey, QNET plans to expand FinGreen to Morocco in the near future.
