Nigeria’s Under-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have ramped up their preparations for the upcoming 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Guinea by scheduling two high-intensity friendly matches this weekend.

The team, under the guidance of head coach Akeem Busari, will face Generation Next on Saturday, before taking on Nazareth Queens on Sunday.

Both friendlies are set to take place at the Goal Project facility in Abuja, a familiar training hub for the Flamingos.

These matches are designed to test the squad’s tactical discipline, fitness, and cohesion as they edge closer to their crucial two-legged playoff against Guinea next month.

According to team officials, the majority of the invited players have already reported to the team’s camp at the Serob Legacy Hotel in Abuja, with only a few expected to join in the coming hours.

The coaching staff is using the training camp to assess final selections and build understanding among the young players, many of whom are eager to secure a spot in the starting lineup.

The Flamingos are scheduled to face Guinea in the second qualifying round for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. The first leg will be played away in Guinea between May 22 and 24, while the return leg is set for Nigeria on May 30.

A place in the next round or potentially a direct World Cup ticket will be at stake, depending on the tournament’s qualification structure.

The 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup itself is slated to be hosted by Morocco, running from October 17 to November 7, 2026. Nigeria’s Flamingos have a strong pedigree in the competition, having previously reached the knockout stages and produced several stars for the senior national team.

These friendlies are seen as a vital step in ensuring the team is battle-ready for the difficult assignment against Guinea.
