FUTO Student’s Death In Man O’ War Custody Triggers Students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), have staged protests following the reported death of a 100-level Cybersecurity student allegedly while in the custody of Man O’ War Nigeria cadets over an accusation of theft.

The deceased student was reportedly apprehended after being accused of stealing ₦13,000 and taken into custody for questioning by the cadets.

Eyewitness accounts circulating on campus alleged that the student was subjected to hours of physical assault while in detention, despite attempts by some students to intervene and appeal for restraint.

Sources said the student later became unresponsive overnight while still in custody, a development that triggered outrage among students across the campus.

Protesters have since taken to various parts of the university, demanding justice and a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, while calling on authorities to ensure accountability for anyone found culpable.

In response to the escalating tension, university authorities reportedly suspended all Man O’ War activities on campus indefinitely, pending the outcome of investigations into the student’s death.

At the time of filing this report, neither the university management nor Man O’ War Nigeria had issued an official statement detailing the incident or confirming the circumstances leading to the student’s death.
