House of Representatives member-elect for Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency of Taraba State, Isma’ila Maihanchi, died early yesterday in Abuja after a brief illness. He was aged 37.

He won the election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just-held general elections after defeating the incumbent House of Representatives member, Kasimu Maigari who was elected in 2019.

A source in the family told reporters that his remains would be laid to rest according to Islamic rites later yesterday. He is survived by a wife, son and parents.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila,  expressed sadness over the death.

Describing the news as devastating and disheartening, Gbajabiamila said from the little he was told about the late Maihanci, he was ready to serve his people diligently.

The speaker expressed condolences to the family, people and government of Taraba State, especially his constituents at Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency.

Similarly, the chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Hon. Muktar Aliyu Betara, also commiserated with the people and government of Taraba State over the loss.
