Founder of the Centre for Climate Business and Development, Mallam Olawale Rasheed has called on state governments in Nigeria to set up a Climate Advisory Council to drive climate adaptation, mitigation, and resilience actions across the subnational space.

Rasheed, who is also the spokesperson to Governor Ademola Adeleke, said state leaders should emulate President Bola Tinubu, Governor Ademola Adeleke, and others to craft state policies and action plans to tackle the devastating threats posed by climate change to humanity.

In a release he made available to journalists in Osogbo, Rasheed called on leaders to set up advisory councils composed of experts and leaders of non-profit groups to ramp up actions on the climate sector.

He noted that the president has demonstrated presidential support and state leaders should act individually if not jointly to design state plans as urgently as possible.

The special adviser to the Osun governor insisted that climate mitigation, resilience, and adaptation measures are best implemented within a policy framework, adding that state leaders need to act urgently because the frontline of climate action is the subnational entities.

“Our state leaders should set up advisory councils composed of experts and leaders of non-profit groups to ramp up actions on the climate sector. President Tinubu has demonstrated presidential support and our state leaders should act individually if not jointly to design state plans as urgently as possible.
