Governors of Gombe State and Yobe State have strengthened inter-state ties as Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, on Tuesday, inaugurated  the newly reconstructed Ngaldа Modern Market in Yobe, while his counterpart, Mai Mala Buni, joined him in Gombe to inaugurate strategic infrastructure projects.

In Yobe, Buni said the ultra-modern Galda market, which began in June 2024 and was completed in 10 months, was delivered ahead of schedule as part of his administration’s legacy projects.

The facility features 272 shops, an administrative block, mosque, drainage system, fire station, police outpost and other supporting structures.

A 2.98-kilometre drainage channel was also constructed to address perennial flooding in the area.

Buni named the market after Governor Yahaya, describing him as a respected entrepreneur and leader, and urged traders to safeguard the facility and ensure transparency in revenue collection.

Yahaya, in his remarks, praised Buni for executing projects that would outlive his administration, noting the market’s economic importance to traders from both states.

“Anything done in Yobe or Gombe is like serving the same people,” he said, stressing the long-standing bond between the neighbouring states.

In Gombe, Buni commissioned the new Nafada Local Government Secretariat, the Nafada 4-Span Bridge and a Mega Non-Formal Learning Centre (Tsangaya School), projects aimed at improving governance, connectivity and access to education.

Governor Yahaya said the projects, alongside the creation of new 13 Local Council Development Areas, were designed to bring governance closer to the grassroots and stimulate economic growth.

Also present was the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Kabir Masari, who inaugurated the 7.5km Kwanan Rugaji–Almakashi road linking Gombe and Yobe communities, as well as a 66-shop commercial complex in Bajoga.

Stakeholders during the events, said the reciprocal visits highlighted growing collaboration between the two states, with both governors emphasising unity, commerce and regional development as key drivers of progress.
