Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a staff member of the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, Ayodeji Akesinro.
LEADERSHIP Weekend gathered that the victim was reportedly whisked away from his residence at Upenme, in Owo local government area, at about 7pm on Thursday.
Confirming the incident, the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Ondo State branch, described the incident as a “deep shock and grave concern.”
In a statement issued by the chairman, AMLSN Ondo State branch, MLS Akinlolu Ayodeji and the secretary, Adeola-Oyekan Joshua, the union said the victim was forcefully taken from his home by his abductors.
“His abduction is most regrettable and wholly condemnable, and we strongly denounce this criminal act in its entirety,” the union said and called for the immediate and safe release of the victim, tighter security in Owo and its environs, and collaboration with security operatives to apprehend those behind the abduction.
“Injury to one is an injury to all. Solidarity forever!” the union declared.
Confirming the kidnap case, the state’s Police Commissioner, Adebowale Lawal, said security operatives were on top of the situation and have begun combing the forests to rescue the victim.
Lawal explained that the police, in a joint collaborative effort with other security agencies, would ensure that Akesinro is rescued unhurt while perpetrators of the dastardly act are brought to book.
