Gunmen Kill DPO, Village Head In Zamfara, Kano

Bandits in Zamfara State have attacked the Maru Division of the Nigeria Police and killed divisional police officer (DPO) and a sergeant and took away their rifles.

The incident occurred in the late hours of Saturday, when the bandits attempted to kidnap a Maru-based businessman, Alhaji Iliya, who lives near the police formation.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the DPO came to the office to reinforce his team for possible encounter with the bandits.

It was further learnt that the bandits open fire on the police officers at the station, killing the DPO and sergeant.

When contacted, the spokesman of the state police command, SP. Mohammed Shehu, declined to comment on the attack, saying, “we are in Maru right now to assess the situation, but I will get back to you when wereturn to Gusau.”

In another development, suspected gunmen have killed the village head of Maigari in Rimin Gado local government area of Kano State, Alhaji Dahiru Abba.

The newly appointed permanent secretary in the state’s judiciary, Alhaji Sanusi Abbas, who is a family member of the deceased, confirmed the incident

He said the late village head was the biological father of the present chairman of Rimin Gado LGA, Bar Munir Dahiru Maigari.

“The late Maigari killed when some unidentified gunmen stormed his residence in the early hours of Sunday, inflicted various degrees of injury on his body and later shot him dead.”

“May his soul rest in Aljannatur Firdaus,” he said.
