The chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Honourable Kabiru Amadu, has stated that Super Eagles B’s qualification for the Championship of African Nations Cup (CHAN) at the expense of Ghana is a good sign that Nigeria’s flag will be hoisted at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Home based Eagles on Saturday defeated their Ghanaian counterparts 3-1 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium Uyo after a 0-0 draw in the first leg in Accra.

Honourable Amadu who represents Gusau/Tsafe Federal constituency in the House of Representatives said: “Picking the CHAN ticket for the first time since 2018 is a sign for many good achievements in sports particularly in football.’

“I am so happy for the Home based Eagles for beating Black Galaxies to the ticket. Ending 2024 with this achievement is a sign that the senior national team, Super Eagles, will pick the 2026 FIFA World Cup ticket despite walking a tightrope.”

“On behalf of the House Committee on Sports, I congratulate the Super Eagles B team and the Nigeria Football Federation for finishing the year on a high note. They should build on this achievement going into 2025 so that at the end of next year, football will put smiles on the faces of Nigerians.”

The lawmaker however urged Ibrahim Musa Gusau-led Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to start preparation for the CHAN finals slated for early February in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya.

“As the CHAN finals holds in February, the NFF must start working on early camping for  CHAN Eagles to be among the title contenders.”

“Despite not too bright hope for Super Eagles picking the 2026 World Cup ticket following their position on the log, this feat has raised my hope and that of many Nigerians that the three times African champions will qualify.” the Chairman concluded.

The 8th Championship of African Nations Cup is slated for February 2025 and will be co-hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
