The president of international humanitarian organisation, Jose Foundation UK, Dr Martins Abhulimhen, has been conferred with an Humanity Award at the Chesterfield Ballroom, London, for promoting women and protecting the girl-child globally.

In a statement signed by Dr Martins Abhulimhen and made available to journalists on Wednesday, the award was presented to Abhulimhen by Lord John Taylor of Warwick of the House of Lords.

The event was the launch of the 190-page book titled; “Beyond Beauty”, written by the award-winning author, Dr Blessing Agbomhere.

Extoling the contributions of Abhulimhen, Dr Blessing Agbomhere, said the awardee is a committed Nigerian in the diaspora working hard to see the emancipation of the girl-child, women in Africa and around the world.

He lauded the contributions of Jose Foundation UK to girl-child education in Nigeria and fighting for the vulnerable through series of development programs initiated by the organisation in several parts of Nigeria.

Agbomhere said, “Besides most of the things he has done was a recent medical outreach in Nigeria. He lives in the United Kingdom but every now and then he takes out that kind to give back to communities in Nigeria.

“He believes in community service, he believes in exporting intellect. He takes whatever that is good here to Nigeria so that the country can close up the gap from being a third world country to a developed one.

“He has done so much to the Nigerian communities and he has not stopped, I want to appreciate him for what he has been doing. This is part of our project to reach out to the ordinary girl in Nigeria.”

In his remarks, Dr Martins Abhulimhen, appreciated the organisers of the event for finding him worthy of the award and renewed his commitment to advancing the cause of the girl-child and women in the developing world.

He said the organisation has carried out works of promoting the rights of the girl-child in the UK, Nigeria and South Africa.

He added that the Foundation was committed to eradicating extreme poverty, advancing children’s rights, and ensuring girl-child equality across the globe.

“The Foundation is implementing a global sensitisation aimed at creating awareness and ensuring safe practices around Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in a bid to address the global pandemic arising from COVID-19 and other infections.

“In Borno State, Nigeria the organisation held the sensitisation program at Muhammadu Buhari Academy, a mega boarding school in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) where students were sensitised on the symptoms of COVID-19 and the prevention measures to observe within and outside their learning environment. The program was a huge success.

“In Abuja, the Foundation kick-started the sensitisation program at the Durumi Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camp, Area One Abuja where the project team conducted a needs assessment to examine the knowledge, attitudes, and practices with respect to COVID-19 awareness and prevention among the residents.

“The Foundation also organised the first annual conference of the Nigerian Governors Wives Against Gender Based Violence (NGWA-GBV) in Abuja.

“The conference was organised to plant the campaign in the minds of the people that violence against women is evil and must be stopped with our collective energy. These among many programs we have organised in the cause of championing the rights and protection of the girls and women in Nigeria,” said Abhulimhen.
