Joshua–Fury Megafight Finally Set To Ignite World Boxing

After years of near-misses, false dawns and fraught negotiations, the fight British boxing has craved is finally on. Anthony Joshua will face long-time rival Tyson Fury in what is already being billed as the biggest bout in the history of the sport in the United Kingdom.

The breakthrough was confirmed by promoter Eddie Hearn, who declared the blockbuster showdown “signed, sealed and delivered”, ending years of speculation surrounding a contest that has defined an era without ever taking place.

theguardian.com, however, reports that before the long-awaited clash materialises—expected later this year, with November touted as a likely window—Joshua must first navigate a comeback bout against Albania’s heavy-handed Kristian Prenga in Riyadh on 25 July. While relatively unknown on the global stage, Prenga boasts a formidable record: all 20 of his victories have come by stoppage, presenting a potentially dangerous hurdle for the former world champion.

For Joshua, 36, the return to the ring carries emotional weight. His last outing came in December, when he defeated social media star-turned-boxer Jake Paul. However, that triumph was overshadowed by a tragic car crash later that month in Nigeria involving his team, which claimed two lives. The incident forced Joshua into a period of reflection and recovery.

“It’s no secret I’ve taken time to rebuild and refocus,” Joshua said. “Now it’s about stepping back in and continuing the journey. The landlord will collect his rent.”

Meanwhile, Fury, 37, has wasted little time stoking the rivalry. Fresh from a convincing victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov, the self-styled “Gypsy King” publicly called out Joshua, even attempting to lure him into the ring post-fight. Joshua declined—but the message was clear.

Both men, two-time world champions, have dominated heavyweight boxing for over a decade, carrying British boxing onto the global stage. Yet, until now, their paths had never crossed inside the ropes.

With Saudi Arabia once again positioned as a key host and global streaming platforms circling broadcast rights, the fight promises not just sporting significance but commercial magnitude.

If Joshua successfully clears the Prenga hurdle, the stage will finally be set for a generational showdown—one that could define legacies and settle the ultimate question in British heavyweight boxing.
