JUST- IN: PDP Postpones Inaugural NWC Meeting Amid Security Concerns — Turaki

The new National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), has announced the postponement of the party’s inaugural National Working Committee (NWC) meeting earlier scheduled for Tuesday at the party’s national secretariat located at Wadata Plaza in Abuja.

Speaking to journalists at the PDP headquarters after gaining entry into the premises, Turaki explained that the postponement became necessary following what he described as “incidents caused by the enemies of progress and democracy.”

“Due to some incidents caused by those who are the enemies of progress, the enemies of democracy, we have decided to postpone this meeting till tomorrow,” he stated.

The PDP chairman, who was accompanied by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, commended the Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for ensuring adequate security that allowed the leadership access to the party secretariat.

“The Commissioner of Police of the FCT — I told him that we were coming today to have our inaugural NWC meeting, and that our leaders would be here to witness this historic moment,” Turaki said.

“I also told him that we had seen on social media some flyers announcing meetings of the NEC and BoT by people who are no longer members of this party. He assured us that he was going to protect us and provide security for us to conduct our meeting. I’m happy that the Commissioner of Police has fulfilled his promise. They have made sure that we gained entry into our secretariat, and we are here addressing the gentlemen of the press.”

Turaki expressed appreciation to the party’s leadership and stakeholders for their solidarity, noting that the PDP remains a peace-loving party committed to unity and democratic stability.

“I want to appreciate our leaders, our governors, members of the National Assembly, former governors, former ministers, members of the Board of Trustees, state chairmen, and indeed members of the immediate past National Working Committee who have come here to show solidarity with us,” he said.

“We in the PDP are peace-loving people. We want peace to reign because we want to take over governance in this country. And if we want to take over governance in this country, then we must first ensure that we have one united country in place.”

The development came amid an ongoing leadership tussle within the PDP, with Turaki’s faction asserting its legitimacy following the expulsion of former National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, minister of the federal capital territory, Nyesom Wike, and other party members accused of sabotage, who also announced they would hold their factional NEC and BoT meetings at the same venue on Tuesday.

Turaki reaffirmed that the rescheduled meeting will now hold on Wednesday, November 19, at the Wadata Plaza headquarters of the PDP under full police protection.
