‘Lawyer’ Remanded For Luring Woman Into Fake Marriage

A 43-year-old fake lawyer, Samuel Idu, who allegedly lured a woman into fake marriage and duped her of N5.4 million has been remanded in Minna Federal Correctional Centre.

Idu was arraigned by operatives of the Special Investigation and Intelligence Bureau (SIIB) of the Niger State Police Command on a four-count charge of criminal breach of trust, cheating, arrangement for self-kidnapping and false representation for as kidnapped person.

The police prosecutor Asp Emmanuel Bassa, said the suspect was arraigned on four count charges that contravened sections 312,323, 324 and 309 of the penal code law and section 6 (1) and (2) of Niger State Anti-kidnapping and Cattle Rustling Act 2018 as amended.

Meanwhile, the police First Information Report (FIR) reads, “That on the 19th October, 2023, one Deborah Omeiza  of Brighter group of companies in Minna  reported  via  referral from Chief Magistrate  Court three  that on the 30th of July, 2023 , you, Samuel Idu of Sun City Estate in Abuja (FCT), presented yourself to her as a Barrister and also an American citizen knowing fully that, it is  false claimed.”

The FIR stated further that the suspect lured her into a marriage relationship by inducing her into believing that he was a responsible person and while dating her, he lied to her that he travelled to the United State of America (USA), and United Arab Emirate (UAE) Dubai.

The report stated further that on different occasions, through the pretence of being kidnapped while coming from one of the journeys abroad the suspect allegedly obtained monies from Deborah ranging up to N5.4 million through his bank account.
