AVSATEL Communications Ltd has described its nomination for Company of the Year 2024 award by LEADERSHIP Group Limited as a major motivation to push the boundaries of aviation safety and technological innovation in Nigeria.

Managing director, Arc Abdullahi Bayi, made this remark while receiving the nomination letter at the company’s headquarters in Abuja.

The delegation was led by group managing director, LEADERSHIp Group Limited, Muazu Elazeh.

Bayi said AVSATEL’s 25-year presence in Nigeria has been pivotal in reshaping the aviation sector, particularly after the Sosoliso and ADC air disasters.

Describing the award as a recognition of the company’s dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence, he noted that AVSATEL was entrusted with upgrading air traffic management systems and its innovations have since strengthened Nigeria’s airspace, improving flight safety and minimising risks.

Bayi said the industry-leading company has led major upgrades at key airports in Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Kano, while also extending its reach to regional hubs in Birnin Kebbi and Lafia.

“These advancements have transformed airspace surveillance, enabling real-time aircraft tracking and significantly cutting aviation risks,” he said.

According to the managing director, AVSATEL’s installation of Low-Level Windshear Alert Systems at airports is a game-changer for aviation safety. He explained that the highly advanced technology detects hazardous wind shear during takeoff and landing, significantly reducing weather-related flight risks.

He also highlighted the company’s ongoing work at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, as part of its broader commitment to enhancing aviation infrastructure and training.

Bayi further noted that the company’s local spare parts store and calibration facility in Abuja has streamlined maintenance operations, reduced dependence on foreign technical support, and minimised aircraft downtime.

In addition, he underscored AVSATEL’s investment in human capital and its commitment to promoting local content, stating that the company has trained hundreds of Nigerian aviation professionals through specialised programmes, equipping them with advanced airspace management skills and positioning them as industry leaders.

While spotlighting AVSATEL’s contributions to fire safety infrastructure, Bayi underscored the critical need for robust emergency response systems as Nigeria’s aviation sector expands. To address this, he said the company has developed specialised training programmes for fire service personnel, enhancing safety measures across multiple sectors.

Presenting the Letter of Nomination, Elazeh described AVSATEL’s selection as the result of a thorough and merit-based assessment.

He stated that AVSATEL outclassed its competitors, securing the LEADERSHIP Company of the Year award for its trailblazing contributions to aviation safety, deployment of cutting-edge technology, and unwavering dedication to local content development.

He disclosed that the award ceremony is scheduled for April 8, 2025, at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, bringing together top government officials, business leaders, and industry stakeholders for a prestigious celebration of excellence and innovation.

He also revealed that, alongside AVSATEL, several eminent personalities will be recognised, including Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Benedict Peters, and governors from various states, for their exceptional contributions across diverse sectors.

Beyond the awards,  Elazeh described the LEADERSHIP Awards as a dynamic platform for national dialogue rather than just a celebration.

He stated that the event gathers influential industry experts, policymakers, and business leaders for a high-level conference aimed at addressing key national challenges and shaping Nigeria’s economic trajectory.

He also disclosed that this year’s conference will centre on “The Challenges and Opportunities In Nigeria’s Fiscal Federalism.”

Given the nation’s current financial landscape, he underscored the urgency of the theme, noting that discussions will focus on practical strategies for sustainable fiscal policies and economic resilience.

He further revealed that Vice President Kashim Shettima will deliver the keynote address, spearheading a high-stakes conversation on Nigeria’s fiscal policies, economic trajectory, and long-term growth strategies.
