The leadership of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, a Fulani Sociocultural Association, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and relevant security authorities to intervene in the continued detention of its leader, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Bodejo.
The North Central Chairman of the body, Alhaji Idris Gidado Bebeji, made the appeal while speaking to journalists on Wednesday.
The group appealed to President Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the leadership of security agencies for urgent intervention.
The group described Bodejo as a prominent leader and advocate of the Fulani pastoralist community who has contributed to peaceful coexistence and national unity, noting that his continued detention has generated serious concern among his family, associates and the wider pastoralist community.
The zonal chairman noted that Bodejo was initially arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Jalingo, Taraba State, on the day he officially declared his intent to contest the Taraba Central Senatorial District seat.
He was subsequently handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and spent almost four months in detention.
The association said Bodejo had reportedly fulfilled the conditions for his release from EFCC custody before he was rearrested by DSS operatives on 28 August 2026.
The association said that while it recognises the constitutional responsibilities of security and law-enforcement agencies and does not seek to obstruct any lawful investigation, it is appealing for the matter to be handled fairly and expeditiously in accordance with the Constitution.
“We acknowledge that the relevant security agencies may possess information not available to us. However, we respectfully appeal that the circumstances and legal basis for his continued detention be reviewed at the highest appropriate level,” the statement said.
The group added that if there is a lawful basis for further investigation or prosecution, due process should be strictly followed, and if his continued detention is no longer legally necessary, he should be released to his family without further delay.
The association also noted that Bodejo is a member and supporter of the APC who supported the Tinubu-Shettima ticket in the 2023 general elections, and commended the Tinubu administration for establishing the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development to promote pastoralist inclusion.
“We are not asking that Alhaji Bello Bodejo or any other citizen be placed above the law. We are simply appealing that the law should take its proper course while his constitutional rights, dignity and personal liberty are fully respected,” Bebeji said.
The group further appealed to its members and the Fulani pastoralist community across the country to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding, while expressing confidence in dialogue and constitutional processes.
It also called on the international community, including Amnesty International, to lend its voice to ensure the matter is resolved peacefully and in accordance with the law.
