In a bid to improve healthcare access for underserved communities,
The National Association of Seadogs, (NAS),Pyrates Confraternity (Sahara Deck),yesterday embarked on a medical outreach program in Dakibiu community,Jabi, Abuja.
The event afforded hundreds of residents the opportunity
to get free medical checkups, consultations, and essential medications to those in need.
Speaking at the event, President, National Association of Seadogs (Sahara Deck), Abuja central, Chike Onyia, said ,“We understand the challenges of Dakibiu community, if you look around there are no health facilities.So we at the National Association of Seadogs,organised this outreach, to help alleviate some of those burdens and promote better health within the community,” he stated.
He further called on the government to establish health centres and other necessary infrastructure that will improve the living conditions of the residents.
Also speaking chief of Dakibiu community, Yakubu Lamish,who expressed appreciation to NAS, over its gesture, said the medical outreach addressed the gap in healthcare delivery in the locality,given that it provided free medical services, consultations, screenings, and treatments, especially to those in need.
Residents expressed their gratitude, with many describing the initiative as a lifesaver. A beneficiary, Mrs. Joy Akor,shared her appreciation, saying,“I want to say I’m grateful,today,I got free consultation and medicine for free.”
On his part,the Sahara Deck medical focal person,Mr Afahaene Nimekung,
emphasised the organization’s commitment to bridging the healthcare gap in rural and suburban areas. “We understand the challenges many Nigerians face in accessing quality healthcare.Through this outreach, we hope to alleviate some of those burdens and also draw government’s attention to the needs within the community,” he stated.
The NAS medical outreach program highlights the importance of collaborative efforts in improving public health and fostering a healthier society. With more initiatives like this, the dream of universal healthcare access in Nigeria may gradually become a reality.
