The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure has distributed clean cookstoves, bags of rice and other essential household items to 1,000 households in Sumaila local government area of Kano State.
The intervention was carried out during the fourth phase of the agency’s Sustainable Environment Programme to improve household welfare and promote cleaner, more efficient cooking practices.
At the ceremony, NASENI’s executive vice chairman and chief executive officer, Khalil Halilu, said the initiative was designed to make technology accessible to ordinary Nigerians and ease the financial burden of daily cooking.
He said the clean cookstoves were designed to improve fuel efficiency and reduce smoke emissions, thereby encouraging safer cooking practices and reducing dependence on traditional cooking methods.
“Every household has the inspiration to put food on the table, provide for its children, and build a better future. At NASENI, we believe technology should help people meet these everyday needs,” Halilu said.
He urged beneficiaries to use the equipment properly and share knowledge of its operation and maintenance with other household members to maximise its benefits.
The NASENI boss said the programme aligned with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Tinubu, adding that the agency remained committed to translating technological innovations into practical solutions for communities.
He commended Senator Kawu Sumaila for supporting the initiative, as well as the Kano State Government, local government authorities, traditional rulers and community leaders for their contributions.
In his remarks, the senator representing Kano South, Kawu Sumaila, said his approach to public service was focused on delivering tangible projects rather than making promises.
He cited ongoing efforts to rehabilitate irrigation facilities in Kano South, including the Challawa-Gorge Dam in Karaye and other irrigation projects, which he said had remained abandoned for decades.
The senator commended the president for supporting infrastructure development in the district and reaffirmed his commitment to working with him and the State Governor, Abba Yusuf, to advance development.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation to NASENI and the Federal Government, describing the intervention as timely and saying the items would help ease household expenses.
