The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has flagged off the distribution of food baskets donated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) to 6,000 vulnerable households in Yobe State.

Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, announced the development in a post on her verified Facebook page on Friday, describing the initiative as part of a broader humanitarian intervention aimed at supporting vulnerable Nigerians.

According to her, the distribution was being carried out “in line with the specific operational and accountability standards of the donor.”

She disclosed that KSrelief donated a total of 24,302 food baskets for direct distribution to vulnerable persons across Yobe, Benue, Anambra, Kebbi, and Taraba States.

“KSrelief has donated a total of 24,302 food baskets for direct distribution to vulnerable persons in NEMA Yobe, Benue, Anambra, Kebbi and Taraba States,” she said.

The NEMA boss described KSrelief as a dependable humanitarian partner, noting that the organisation has consistently supported vulnerable populations in Nigeria through relief interventions and technical assistance.

“Over the years, KSrelief has remained a dependable humanitarian partner to Nigeria, consistently supporting vulnerable populations through various relief interventions and technical assistance aimed at strengthening emergency response capacity. Today’s event is yet another demonstration of the enduring humanitarian partnership between our two countries,” Zubeida stated.

She also expressed appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its continued humanitarian support.

“I wish to specially appreciate the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Government and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the management of KSrelief for their generosity, compassion, and continued support to Nigeria,” she added.

As the rainy season intensifies across the country, Umar urged residents of flood-prone communities to take precautionary measures to safeguard lives and property.

“As the rainy season heightens, I wish to strongly advise residents, community leaders, and local authorities in flood-prone areas to take proactive measures to reduce risks and protect lives,” she said.

She reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving citizens’ welfare and addressing the challenges posed by disasters, conflicts, climate-related emergencies, and economic hardships.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, remains committed to improving the welfare of citizens and addressing the vulnerabilities arising from disasters, conflicts, climate-related emergencies, and economic challenges,” Zubaida added.
