Niger State governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, says his administration  is working with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) to have the Bida Sallah Durbar (Hawan Bariki) listed as a global festival.

The farmer governor disclosed this at yesterday’s Emirate Sallah Durbar held in Bida, where he served as a special guest of honour.

He described the Sallah durbar as a unique event that deserved global recognition. Hence, the event, which has been part of BidaBida’s story for many years, has continued to serve as an avenue for peace and unity among the Nupes spread across the Country.

Bago therefore lauded the Etsu Nupe and chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Yahaya Abubakar, for his vision and foresight in promoting and maintaining the Nupe tradition.

The Etsu Nupe and the Chairman said earlier in their addresses that the Durbar was held to mark the end of the Eid celebration and was part of efforts to preserve the Nupe cultural heritage.

He appreciated the people for their contributions and support in making the event a success. He prayed for the peace and security of the State and for the success of the government.

At the event, the Governor, his wife, Hajiya Fatima Bago, and the Etsu Nupe were presented with certificates of merit by the G5 Grassroots Mobilisation Group and the Masaba Solidarity Movement.
