Nigerian Legion and the Green Heroes Foundation are set to honour President Muhammadu Buhari, former head of state General Yakubu Gowon, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former minister of defence, General TY Danjuma, former military president General Ibrahim Babangida, and former head of state General Abdulsalami Abubakar.
The two organisations would also use the event to showcase some ex-soldiers who participated in previous wars such as the Burma Campaigns, the civil war, and some participants of the ECOMOG wars in both Liberia and Sierra Leone.
The national chairman, Nigeria Legion, Maj General Abdulmalik Jibril who disclosed this yesterday during a press briefing in Abuja said during the award they shall present to Nigerians, some ex-soldiers who fought against each other during the civil war and those that were re-integrated into the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to enlighten Nigerians on the need for peaceful co-existence that would ensure progress and development of the country.
He also noted that the goal of the event is to create awareness on the travails of men and women in uniform who are constantly exposed to threats and hazards during and after active service.
