Nigerian Navy Commissions 80,000-Litre Solar-Powered Borehole In Katsina

The Nigerian Navy has commissioned 80,000 litre of solar powered borehole in Kerau community of Katsina State.

The project, executed in honour of Rear Admiral Mohammed Yakubu Dahiru under the Chief of the Naval Staff’s Special Intervention Quick Impact Project initiative, aimed at improving access to clean water, education and security while strengthening civil-military relations.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the representative of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Aminu Abdullahi, said the intervention reflected the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to national development beyond its constitutional responsibility of safeguarding the country’s maritime domain.

He explained that the Special Quick Impact Project, introduced in 2024, was designed to strengthen civil-military cooperation while supporting the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda through people-centred development initiatives.

According to him, the projects will improve access to potable water, enhance security through better street lighting and provide a more conducive learning environment for schoolchildren in the community.

“The Nigerian Navy is committed not only to protecting lives and property but also to improving the well-being of Nigerians through impactful community projects,” he said.

Rear Admiral Abdullahi noted that the intervention honoured accomplished senior naval officers while promoting stronger relationships between the military and host communities.

He commended Rear Admiral Mohammed Yakubu Dahiru for successfully executing the projects and urged residents to take ownership of the facilities by protecting and maintaining them.

Earlier, Rear Admiral Dahiru described the projects as a lasting investment in the welfare of the people of Kerau and Katsina State.
He said the intervention included an 80,000-litre solar-powered water facility, solar-powered streetlights and the renovation of the community school, all carefully selected to address critical needs in the area.

In addition to the infrastructure projects, he disclosed that personnel of the Armed Forces from Kerau and other military formations in Katsina had organised a free medical outreach offering consultations, treatment, drugs and medical advice to residents.

He urged members of the community to take advantage of the free healthcare services and continue supporting security agencies with credible information to enhance security operations across the state.

Dahiru expressed appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla’s successor, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Dada Abbas, for approving the intervention, as well as the Katsina State Government, traditional rulers, security agencies, contractors and members of the community for their support.

He also appealed to residents to safeguard the facilities to ensure they remain beneficial for future generations.

The special guest of honour, the governor of Katsina state, Mallam DIkko Umaru Radda who was represented by his chief of staff, Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir thanked the facilitator and the Nigeria Navil for the initiative, stressing that the project is inline with his administration plan of developmental project which are visible across the state.

He urged the benefiting community to take ownership of the project and not allow people to vandalised the project.

The ceremony was attended by senior military officers, members of the Katsina State Executive Council, traditional rulers, community leaders, security chiefs and other dignitaries.
