The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has announced with deep regret the death of one of its Board members, Sury Sam Timothy, describing his passing as a significant loss to the sport.
Mr. Timothy, who served as the Technical Representative on the federation’s board, was widely regarded as a pivotal figure in the development of volleyball in Nigeria. In this role, he contributed to policy formulation and actively advanced the technical standards of the game nationwide.
He previously held the position of Chairman of the Nigeria Volleyball Referee Association, where he was instrumental in promoting professionalism and enhancing the quality of officiating. His tenure saw a heightened emphasis on training and capacity building for referees across the country.
At the continental level, Timothy served as a member of the Zone 3 Referee Commission of the Confederation of African Volleyball, representing Nigeria in regional and international engagements. His work garnered him considerable recognition within the broader volleyball community.
In a statement, the NVBF described Timothy as a dedicated administrator, accomplished referee, and mentor whose contributions would have a lasting impact on the sport. The federation extended its condolences to his family, the Kogi State Government, colleagues, and the wider volleyball community.
