The federal government, through the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), Folasade Yemi-Esan, has said that the civil service is currently undergoing significant reforms which were aimed at creating a digital civil service to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery.

Yemi-Esan, who spoke at the Juma’at Service held as part of activities to commemorate the Civil Service Week in Abuja on Friday, said that the reforms which included the adoption of new technologies have reached a critical stage.

The Head of Civil Service, who was represented by the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Police Affairs, Dr Sanni Gwarzo, stated that Nigerians would see a digital civil service very soon.

“Yes, this year, we have a special event that has many folds of blessings in it. One is that the civil service has undertaken bold steps towards reformation, and I think and I am proud to say that we have reached a critical stage in that reform process.

“This is the right time to celebrate the success so far recorded. Also, the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President, the Head of Service of the Federation, has realigned the civil service reform towards the Renewed Hope Agenda. We are in a digital age, you will see a digital civil service very soon,” she said.

She further said that a delegation was sent to understudy the Singaporean civil service system and that the country was not doing badly in its reform process.

“So, Nigeria is blessed. The civil service is reforming, and whatever Mr President is trying to achieve with the Renewed Hope Agenda, we are getting ready, or we are ready, to support him in that direction.

“I want to say that not only that, in the last few years, many of Nigeria’s senior civil servants have travelled around the world to see what civil service is all about in many countries.

“Recently, a delegation came back from Singapore and a good number of people went, and understudied the system.
We’ve seen many systems, and believe me, we are doing very well in terms of our reform process,” she said.

LEADERSHIP had reported that the civil service reforms were essential for driving significant change in Nigeria’s governance system and advancing national progress.

The reforms, according to experts, will enhance transparency, and improve efficiency, ultimately creating a more effective and accountable government.
