National Administrative Council (NAC) of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has directed all the affiliate unions to commence mobilisation for action in Abia State over the failure of the state government to pay over six months’ salary arrears, allowances of workers and pensions. The directive came as the 14-day ultimatum given to the government ends on Friday, February 24.
NLC national president, Comrade Joseph Ajaero, who issued the directive at the end of inaugural meeting of the newly elected council members in Abuja, urged INEC to ensure that the upcoming electoral processes are transparent, fair and reflect the wishes of voters. He equally directed workers to come out en mass to perform their civic duty by voting in the coming elections.
Ajaero also warned that the disruption of the electoral process by parties, politicians or whoever will be unacceptable by the generality of Nigerians who have invested their time and resources.
He called upon the security agencies to guarantee the safety of voters, observers, INEC officials and all those associated with conducting free, fair and credible elections across the country during the elections.
He said the congress together with other dispassionate organisations or individuals cannot afford to be indifferent or passive in the forthcoming elections and strongly warned those with sinister agenda to steer clear.
