Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has described politicians as the major obstacle to Nigeria’s progress, urging young people to rise to the challenge of transforming the country.

Speaking at a youth conference in Abuja organised by Rev. Fr. John Chinenye Oluoma of the Abuja Archdiocese, Obi said Nigeria needed “Davids” capable of confronting the nation’s challenges and changing its trajectory.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesman, Ibrahim Umar, Obi said politicians who prioritise personal interests over national development remain the biggest challenge facing the country.

According to him, critical sectors such as security, power, healthcare, and education continue to struggle due to poor leadership and mismanagement.

“The Goliaths in Nigeria’s political landscape are politicians who divert public resources for personal gain and refuse to prioritise the country’s interests,” Obi was quoted as saying.

He said questions raised by participants at the conference reflected concerns about insecurity, unemployment, education, and healthcare challenges confronting many young Nigerians.

Obi urged youths to adopt realistic lifestyles, live within their means, and resist societal pressure to maintain artificial standards of living.
