Kinsmen of the Rano Divisional Police Officer, Baba Ali Mohammed who was killed by an irate mob in Kano State, have called on government to expedite action on the prosecution of those behind the act.

The Eggon Cultural and Development Association, the socio-cultural group representing the Eggon people in Nasarawa State, made the call in Lafia yesterday.

CSP Mohammed, who hailed from Nasarawa State, was killed after hoodlums attacked Rano police station and set some parts of it ablaze alongside two vehicles late last month.

The group in a position signed by its president, Mandy David Abuluya, said investigation and prosecution of those behind the killing ought to be swift.

It noted that the Eggon nation worldwide was saddened by the gruesome murder of the police officer who had shown commitment and displayed high level of professionalism in all his affairs.

“The brutal assassination of CSP Mohammed demands urgent action,” it said, demanding that the culprits must face the full wrath of the law.

It noted that  tragedy mirrored the murder of Bako Angbashim, DPO of Ahoada in Rivers State, an Eggon son and Nasarawa State indigene, adding that the circle was too many to be ignored.

The ECDA emphasised that protecting law enforcement officers from mob violence and criminal elements is a non-negotiable duty of government.

It urged police authorities to provide adequate compensation for CSP Mohammed’s family, including full educational support for his children through university graduation.

It also called for policy reforms to address root causes of violence, including youth unemployment, ethnocentrism and religious bigotry.
