The Deputy Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Hon. Henry Magaji from Kagarko constituency, has said that peace is a necessary tool for meaningful growth and good governance in any society.

The lawmaker stated this when he received at the Assembly the Joint Initiative for Strategic Religious Action (JISRA), Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD) and the Women Interfaith Council (WIC) during their JISRA Interfaith endurance peace walk.

Hon. Magaji, who expressed delight with the peace walk, said that, in the absence of peace, there cannot be any societal growth, while stressing that such a peace walk, during which messages of peace should be spread across, needs to be replicated in all the local government areas of the state.\

“The Assembly is with you on this, and I assure you that we will continue to carry out necessary legislation to ensure peace in the State.

“As you can see, Governor Uba Sani is the architect of peace in the State, contrary to what it used to be years ago, he has fixed the northern and Southern dichotomy perpetrated by the previous administration, and today both Christians and Muslims are living as one big family”.

Earlier in his message of peace, the country coordinator of JISRA, Mr Jude Likita, emphasised the need for religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence regardless of our faith, adding that the endurance peace walk reminds us of the need to live in peace always.

Also speaking, Rev SR Veronica Onyeanisi, Ola Executive Director, Women’s Interfaith Council—WIC, reiterated that Muslims and Christians can live together, as demonstrated in the endurance peace walk, which has both Christians and Muslims participating.

She said society would be better if we shun all forms of religious intolerance and promote peaceful coexistence and freedom of religious belief, stressing that “all religions preach peace; we should not see ourselves as enemies.”

The Endurance Peace Walk visited areas such as the Ansarul Islam of Nigeria and abroad, the Kaduna Branch, the Kaduna State House of Assembly, and the Assemblies of God Church.
