Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old suspect for allegedly conspiring with another individual to poison a commercial motorcyclist and steal his motorcycle.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement yesterday, saying the incident followed a distress call from a Good Samaritan.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspect, identified as Isiyaka Badamasi, of Na’ibawa area, Kano State, allegedly conspired with one Ma’aruf Sani, who is currently at large, to carry out the crime.
He said the suspects allegedly lured their 21-year-old victim, a commercial motorcyclist from the Yelwa Tudun area of Bauchi metropolis, by offering him a sweet laced with a harmful substance.
He said shortly after taking the “sweet”, the victim became intoxicated and vulnerable, allowing the suspects to attempt to dispossess him of his Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, whose value has yet to be determined.
However, the victim reportedly sensed danger and raised an alarm, attracting members of the public who apprehended Badamasi, while his accomplice escaped.
The police spokesperson added that the victim was rushed to Gamjuwa Primary Health Care Centre for medical attention and remains on admission, responding to treatment.
Meanwhile, the arrested suspect is in police custody.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation.
The command said efforts had been intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect and ensure that he faces the law.
The commissioner also warned criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities, assuring residents of the command’s continued commitment to protecting lives and property across Bauchi State.
