Niger State police command has disbursed N64.7 million to 30 families of police officers who died in active service between 2020 and 2021.
The state commissioner of police, Mr Monday Bala Kuryas, made the presentation yesterday in Minna, the state capital, of the money on behalf of the inspector-general of police (IGP), Alkali Baba Usman.
He said the welfare package was an initiative of the IGP’s “Group Life Assurance” geared towards improving the lives and capacity of the families left behind by the heroic officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
While presenting the cheques to the next of kin in the presence of family members, the Commissioner of Police appreciated the Inspector General of Police for the laudable initiative to provide succour to the families of the deceased personnel.
He charged the beneficiaries to effectively manage and judiciously use the resources for a better welfare of the families.
Some of the beneficiaries appreciated the gesture by the IGP, the government and the commissioner of police for their efforts in ensuring a better care for them.
They promised that the resources will be well managed towards an improved standard of living for their families.
