PTML Customs Generate N181bn Revenue As Anani Hands Over To Miko

The Ports Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) generated over N181 billion in revenue before the outgoing Area Controller, Comptroller Joseph Anani, handed over leadership of the Command to the newly deployed Acting Controller, DC Nura Ibrahim Miko.

Speaking during the handover ceremony at the Command in Lagos, Comptroller Anani described his eight-month tenure at PTML as an extraordinary privilege and highlighted major operational achievements recorded under his leadership.

According to him, the Command successfully consolidated the implementation of the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), also known as B’Odogwu, following the initial rollout phase, which experienced teething challenges.

“When I first walked into this role, I carried a clear mandate: to steer this command through its modernisation transition stage to a more stable state,” Anani said.

“After my predecessor saw to the successful rollout of B’Odogwu and was addressing the teething challenges associated with such an innovative system, I came, and with the support of my fellow officers, sister agencies and stakeholders, we took it to the next level.”

Anani stated that beyond revenue generation, the Command strengthened enforcement activities through the seizure and handover of illicit drugs, arms and ammunition to agencies including the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW).

He also noted that the Command introduced a one-hour clearance process for compliant vehicle imports to improve trade facilitation and operational efficiency.

“On my watch, we launched groundbreaking initiatives by achieving one-hour clearance of compliant vehicle imports and, most importantly, built a culture where everyone feels valued and encouraged to do more in terms of compliance,” he added.

The outgoing Controller thanked officers, sister agencies and stakeholders for their support throughout his tenure, saying the achievements recorded were made possible through collaboration and dedication.

Meanwhile, the new Acting Controller of the Command, DC Nura Ibrahim Miko, pledged to uphold integrity, due process and seamless trade facilitation at PTML.

Addressing officers and stakeholders after assuming office, Miko assured that his administration would prioritise teamwork, transparency and collaboration.

“I want you to know this: I am here to work with you, not merely to lead you. Under my watch, integrity will be non-negotiable, trade facilitation will remain our priority, and due process will be strictly respected,” he said.

Miko described PTML as a well-organised Command and promised to build on the achievements of his predecessor while sustaining the policy thrust of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, anchored on innovation, consolidation and collaboration.
