The campaign convoy of the Peoples Democratic Partying (PDP) in Benue State heading to Utonkon in Ado local government area of the State for the gubernatorial campaign, was involved in an accident on Friday with several persons sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Samuel Ortom, Nathaniel Ikyur, who was also in the motorcade, said three persons were badly injured in the accident, adding that a detailed statement on the incident will be soon be released to the public.
Our correspondent, however, gathered from other party members, who do not want their names in print, that two State Assembly members, security personnel and some party faithful were seriously injured in the accident.
According to our sources, the State legislators that were injured included the member representing Kwande West State constituency, Hon. Sugh Abanyi, and member representing Guma State constituency, Hon. William Ortyom.
They said the accident involved four vehicles in the campaign train, which include a bus, a Hilux and two jeeps.
LEADERSHIP also gathered from some eyewitnesses that the victims have been evacuated to an unnamed hospital in Igumale, the headquarters of Ado local government area for medical attention.
